The Banner Bookscast ~ Rita McCarthy, Forgotten Lives
In this episode, we talk to local historian and author, Rita McCarthy. Rita’s new book, Forgotten Lives, is the latest publication from Banner Books, and tells the story of the County Clare Mother and Baby Home, known as the County Nursery, which was in operation in Kilrush from 1922 – 1932. Rita talks to us about the history of the County Nursery, and about her insightful approach to telling its story, looking at the broader influences of culture, class and local politics that led to its failure.
