The life of Clareman Brian O'Looney, born in Ennistymon in 1828. Brian O'Looney worked with Smith O'Brien in transcribing Irish-language manuscripts. He also translated short stories and poems and wrote poetry. The Catholic University appointed him lecturer in Irish language and literature in 1873 and subsequently professor of Irish language, literature and archaeology. He was a founding member of the Society for the Preservation of the Irish Language (Cumann Buan-Choimeádta na Gaeilge), he acted as chairman at the society's first meeting on 29 December 1877.
